Trendingger Posted April 7 Posted April 7 Google’s Phone app is set to introduce a new feature that will allow users to identify unknown callers. This feature, known as “Lookup”, is currently being tested in the beta version of the app. The Lookup feature appears on unsaved numbers in the user’s recent call list. When a user taps on Lookup, the app opens the device’s web browser and searches for the number on the web. This feature is not a caller ID lookup like Truecaller. Instead, when a user taps the Lookup icon, it opens the default browser and searches for the number on the web. This suggests that the feature will help find businesses associated with the number rather than individuals. The feature was first spotted by AssembleDebug, who enabled a flag in Google Phone’s version 127.0.620688474. The Lookup feature is reportedly live in Japan with the March feature drop but could be released globally soon. AssembleDebug also spotted a small UI change in the dialer app. This new tool, called “Lookup”, will allow users to identify an unknown caller by searching for the unknown number through various apps. The Lookup feature looks to be a very handy addition to Google’s Phone app, offering users a quick and easy way to identify unknown callers. Do you think it prove to be helpful for most users, or are there concerns about privacy? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
