Trendingger
 The Illinois Department of Public Health has issued a warning regarding certain solar eclipse glasses. These glasses, reportedly sold through Amazon and various retail stores in Southern Illinois, have been recalled due to potential safety standard failures.   The glasses in question were marketed as "Biniki Solar Eclipse Glasses AAS Approved 2024 – CE & ISO Certified Safe Shades for Direct Sun Viewing (6 Packs)". They were available at several establishments, including Farm Fresh Market in Breese, Highland Tru Buy in Highland, and Perry County Marketplace in Pinckneyville.  The recalled glasses bear the label "EN ISO 12312-1:2022". However, the Illinois Department of Public Health has clarified that proper safety glasses should carry the ISO designation of 12312-2, and urges public to double-check theirs to make sure.  This recall has sparked immediate warnings from more than a dozen retailers. The glasses were intended for use during the solar eclipse on April 8. However, viewing the celestial spectacle without proper protection gear could do harm to the eyes.  This incident raises questions about the safety of products sold online and the measures in place to ensure their compliance with safety standards. What are your thoughts on this matter? How can consumers ensure the safety of the products they purchase online?   Read more: https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/2024/04/08/solar-eclipse-glasses-recall-amazon-chicago-florida/73248042007/ https://www.newsweek.com/solar-eclipse-glasses-recall-sparks-immediate-warning-1888086 https://www.nbcchicago.com/news/local/which-solar-eclipse-glasses-have-been-recalled-amazon-illinois/3404413/  Image: Mira Agron | Dreamstime.com
