Jobhunter
Tesla has reportedly dismissed its entire Supercharger team. This decision follows the company’s recent move to lay off more than 10% of its global workforce. The layoffs were not limited to the Supercharger team but also included several senior executives and long-time veterans of the company. Among the notable departures was Drew Baglino, former VP of Powertrain and Energy Engineering, who had been with Tesla for 18 years. Baglino led the 4680 cell project, and his departure has sparked speculation about the project’s progress. Another significant loss for Tesla was Rohan Patel, the head of policy and business development. Patel’s departure, along with the dismissal of most of his public policy team, comes at a time when Tesla faces numerous public policy challenges. The Supercharger team’s dismissal was said to be confirmed through an email from CEO Elon Musk. The email revealed that Rebecca Tinucci, Tesla’s Senior Director of EV charging, would be leaving the company along with most of her 500-person charging team. Tinucci was responsible for the Supercharger rollout, and her departure may indicate a change in direction for Tesla. Despite these layoffs, Tesla will continue to build out some new Superchargers and finish those under construction. However, the Supercharger team’s dismissal could signal a reduction in the system’s buildout—in spite of the expected uptick in usage after Tesla recently opened up its Supercharging network to other EV brands. How will these changes impact Tesla’s growth and innovation in the electric vehicle market? We invite our readers to share their thoughts and perspectives on this development.
