Apple's first titanium Apple Cards are expiring, will replace them

Apple has begun notifying early adopters of the Apple Card that their first-generation titanium cards are set to expire this summer. These cards, launched in August 2019 alongside the Apple Card service itself, boast a sleek design and prioritize security by omitting traditional card numbers on their surface.

 

The expiration date seems to indicate a five-year lifespan for the physical cards. Apple is proactively sending out replacements to ensure continued functionality. Emails are being sent to those who signed up during the initial August 2019 launch window.

 

While the physical card expiration might raise concerns, it's important to remember that the core functionality of Apple Card remains digital. Users can continue utilizing Apple Pay and the virtual card number for online purchases. The virtual card number, with its rotating security codes, offers an additional layer of protection.

 

The replacement cards will arrive pre-activated, although users have the option to continue using their current card until its official expiration date. Apple includes a prepaid shipping label with the new card, encouraging users to return their old cards for recycling.
