Trendingger Posted May 7 Posted May 7 Microsoft’s Xbox division is reportedly closing four of its studios, as part of a strategic shift. The studios facing closure fall under the Bethesda/ZeniMax umbrella, a conglomerate acquired by Microsoft in 2020. The affected studios include Arkane Austin, known for their innovative games, and Tango Gameworks, creators of Hi-Fi Rush. Alpha Dog Games, the brains behind Mobile Doom, and Roundhouse Games are also on the list. The decision to close these studios is not without consequence. Redfall, a game under development by Arkane Austin, will see its last update as all further development ceases. However, the game and its servers will remain online for players. Similarly, Mighty Doom, a product of Alpha Dog Studios, will sunset on August 7. This strategic move by Microsoft is aimed at reprioritizing resources to focus on high-impact games. The company believes that to build new franchises and invest more deeply in existing ones, it needs to identify opportunities best positioned for success. As part of this restructuring, some members of the closing studios will join other teams to work on projects across Bethesda. Roundhouse Games, for instance, will be absorbed into ZeniMax Online Studios, known for The Elder Scrolls Online. How will this strategic shift impact the future of Xbox and its game offerings? Will this focus on high-impact games pay off in the long run? Share your thoughts below.
