Get ready to return to 17th-century Japan! FX and Hulu are prepping not one but two more seasons of breakout drama Shōgun. The Disney-owned network announced that it is teaming with the estate of author James Clavell, who authored the novel on which Shōgun is based, to extend Shōgun for two additional seasons.

The company noted that both seasons are in development, meaning that a final two-season renewal depends on how the creative vision unfolds. This exciting news opens the door for Shōgun to explore a continuation of the captivating story beyond Clavell's original novel, leaving fans eager to see where the narrative takes them next.

But Shōgun's magic goes beyond its riveting plot. The series boasts exceptional production values, with costume designer Carlos Rosario's work being a major highlight. Rosario's costumes have earned widespread praise for their historical accuracy and incredible detail.

Over 2,300 costumes were crafted to reflect the wearer's social status and personality, effectively becoming storytelling devices in their own right. The evolution of characters like Toda Mariko (Anna Sawai) and John Blackthorne (Cosmo Jarvis) is subtly reflected through their changing attire.

Rosario's commitment to authenticity is impressive. He teamed up with historian Frederik Cryns, a renowned expert on Japanese history, to ensure cultural accuracy. Additionally, he worked closely with Hiroyuki Sanada, who championed cultural faithfulness in the costumes.

Creating the costumes for Shōgun was a monumental task. A dedicated team of about 125 people in Vancouver and another 250-300 people globally poured their talent into bringing Rosario's vision to life.

Shōgun's success lies in its combination of an engaging narrative, outstanding performances, and top-notch production values, especially the costume design. As we look forward to the upcoming seasons, we can expect to be further mesmerized by Carlos Rosario's masterful creations, which transport us directly into the vibrant world of Shōgun.

What do you love most about Shōgun? What are your hopes for the upcoming seasons? Share your thoughts and join the conversation with fellow fans.
