Internet Archive targeted by DDoS attack

The Internet Archive, a globally recognized digital library, faced a significant DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attack. This cyber onslaught, which transpired on May 27, 2024, temporarily disrupted the Archive’s services, leaving numerous users unable to access its extensive array of digitized resources.

 

 

The Internet Archive, a non-profit entity established by Brewster Kahle in 1996, is committed to preserving web content for posterity. However, this noble endeavor was momentarily interrupted when the Archive’s website, archive.org, became the target of the DDoS attack. This cyber intrusion rendered the majority of the Archive’s services inaccessible, causing widespread disruption among its international user community.

 

Despite the intensity of the attack, the Archive’s data remained intact. The organization swiftly embarked on recovery operations, and within an hour, services were reinstated. Brewster Kahle, the Archive’s administrator, characterized the situation as a tug-of-war with the attackers.
