Is Starlink internet down?

Starlink Internet is reportedly down for tens of thousands of users, according to DownDetector, as of 9:42PM EDT on May 28, 2024.

 

The satellite-internet company, which is owned by Elon Musk, has acknowledged the issue on its main page with the following message: "Starlink is currently experiencing a service outage. Our team is investigating."

Starlink is a satellite internet constellation operated by Starlink Services, LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of American aerospace company SpaceX. It aims to provide high-speed, low-latency broadband internet connections globally. The constellation consists of over 6,000 mass-produced small satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO) that communicate with designated ground transceivers. As of May 2024, Starlink has more than 3 million subscribers.

 

In the meantime, some Starlink customers have taken to Elon Musk's other company, X, to express their frustration (and humor).

[UPDATE - 10:12PM EDT] Starlink has posted an update on X, confirming it is currently in a network outage.

 

[UPDATE - 10:41PM EDT] Starlink shared on X, at 10:27PM that "the network issue has been fully resolved" although a number of users replied to the thread saying that the service remains down for them.
