Eiffel Tower shows off Olympic Rings in countdown to Paris 2024

As the world eagerly anticipates the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the iconic Eiffel Tower has become a beacon of excitement. With just 50 days remaining until the grand opening, the renowned monument now proudly displays the five Olympic rings.

 

The installation of the rings, a symbol synonymous with the Olympics, took place on June 7. This colossal adornment, spanning 29 meters wide and 13 meters high, was meticulously positioned between the first and second floors of the Eiffel Tower. The rings, crafted from recycled French steel, weigh an impressive 30 tonnes.

The spectacle was unveiled in the early morning, much to the delight of Parisians on their way to work. The rings, visible by day in their traditional colors, transform into a radiant white display at night. This luminous spectacle, made possible by 100,000 low-intensity LEDs, will continue to shine until the conclusion of the Paralympics in late September.

 

The decision to showcase the Olympic rings on the Eiffel Tower was a natural choice. As Paris 2024 managing director Michaël Aloïsio explained, "We wanted the most iconic symbol of the Olympics – the rings – to meet the most iconic symbol of Paris – the Eiffel Tower".

 

This monumental display is not only a symbol of the upcoming games but also a testament to the spirit of unity and global camaraderie that the Olympics represent. As the world counts down the days to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the Eiffel Tower stands tall, its Olympic rings serving as a constant reminder of the thrilling spectacle to come.
