Marshy
In the summer of 2014, a tidal wave of icy donations swept across social media, with everyone from celebrities to your next-door neighbor taking a chilly dunk for ALS research. It was the Ice Bucket Challenge, a viral phenomenon started by Pete Frates, a former baseball player battling Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). Â Fast forward to 2024, and the 10th anniversary of the challenge is upon us. To reignite the fight against ALS, loved ones of Frates, under the Pete Frates Family Foundation, are calling for a new generation to take the plunge. Â The organizers are expecting the challenge to find new life in the era of TikTok. Theyâre calling for a âremixâ of the trend as the creativity and compassion of social media users unite to raise vital funds. Â Â Â Â Â The official commemoration, led by AI tech solutions company NWN Carousel, will kick off with a VIP event at Fenway Park on August 1, 2024 at 10 am. The choice of venue is symbolicâitâs the very same field where Pete Frates took his own icy challenge a decade ago. Â The event will see the Frates family alongside ALS researchers, dignitaries, and even some celebrity muscle, including former NFL MVP Matt Ryan and local sports heroes from the Red Sox, Patriots, and Bruins. Expect speeches, tributes, and, of course, a grand finaleâa massive Ice Bucket Challenge on the hallowed grounds of Fenway itself. Â The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge may have started a decade ago, but the fight for a cure isnât over. This anniversary event is a chance to honor Fratesâ legacy, celebrate the progress made in ALS research, and inspire a new generation to join the cause.
