After a six-year hiatus, four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka made a triumphant return to the Wimbledon courts. Known for her powerful play and unique fashion sense, Osaka's comeback was eagerly anticipated by fans and critics alike.

Much like Serena Williams, Osaka has always been a trendsetter in tennis fashion. Her partnership with Nike has resulted in some of the most memorable and talked-about outfits on the court. She embraces fashion as an extension of her personality, consistently rocking bold and unique looks, a trend that continued with her 2024 Wimbledon outfit.

This year's custom-designed Nike kit for Naomi Osaka was anything but conventional. Described as "an elaborate outfit that wouldn't have looked out of place at the Met Gala," the all-white ensemble featured a cropped racerback tank top adorned with layers of cascading ruffles. Flowing down from her shoulder and wrapping around her torso, the ruffles continued onto a flowy skirt made of the same gauze-like material. Small pops of forest green (Nike logo) throughout the design perfectly complemented her white and green Nike x NO shoes and her signature Tag Heuer Aquaracer watch. The Louis Vuitton ambassador finished off her outfit with a set of delicate LV earrings and pendant necklace, adding a subtle touch of luxury.

The internet, however, was left divided. Some fans lauded the outfit for its originality and daring flair, praising Osaka for pushing boundaries and expressing herself through fashion. However, others found the ruffles to be excessive and distracting.

Despite the mixed opinions on her outfit, Osaka's Wimbledon return has undeniably been a success story, both on and off the court. She secured a hard-fought victory in her first-round match, defeating Diane Parry in a thrilling three-setter, reminding everyone of the exceptional talent we've been missing.

As we eagerly anticipate her next match against Emma Navarro today (Wednesday July 3, 10:30 AM EDT), one question remains: Will Osaka stick with her daring design, or does she have more fashion surprises up her sleeve?
