Mercury Studios, a subsidiary of Universal Music Group, has announced production on a new documentary titled 'One to One: John & Yoko.' This film, made with the cooperation of Lennon's estate, is directed by the Oscar-winning filmmaker Kevin Macdonald. No stranger to creating compelling biopics about iconic musicians, Macdonald's notable works include 'Marley' (2012) and 'Whitney' (2018).

This documentary offers an intimate glimpse into John Lennon and Yoko Ono's lives during their transformative years in 1970s New York City. Set against the backdrop of a turbulent 1972 America, the film centers on the 'One to One Concerts,' John Lennon's only full-length performances after The Beatles. These concerts featured Yoko Ono, The Plastic Ono Band, Elephant's Memory, and Special Guests.

The film is built around the beautiful 16mm film footage of the full-length concert. Director Kevin Macdonald aims to surprise and delight even the most dedicated John Lennon and Yoko Ono fans. He intends to tell the story of this defining period through their own words, images, and music.

'One to One: John & Yoko' boasts newly restored and transferred footage, along with a wealth of previously unseen and unheard personal archives. These include phone calls and home movies recorded by John and Yoko themselves.

The concert audio has been remixed and produced by Sean Ono Lennon, the son of John and Yoko. Sean Ono Lennon believes Kevin MacDonald's documentary offers a fresh perspective on his parents' lives during their Bank Street and early New York years. He highlights their unwavering dedication to promoting peace and non-violence during a tumultuous era marked by unrest, corruption, and war.

Alice Webb, Mercury Studios CEO, describes the film as a story of radical hope. She emphasizes that it's an honest and intimate look at a pivotal year in John and Yoko's lives, exploring their musical, personal, artistic, social, and political world.

This documentary is a must watch for all fans of John Lennon and Yoko Ono. It provides a window into the lives of two of history's most influential and iconic artists. It also delves into a period often overshadowed by The Beatles legacy, showcasing John's artistic exploration and the couple's unwavering activism. Prepare to be captivated by a potent mix of politics, youth culture, self-discovery, and the raw power of their artistry.
